Details
Day 1: NAIROBI – SAMBURU (Appx: 350kms: 6 hrs)
0630hrs: Pick up from your hotel in Nairobi or Airport. We will take a scenic route via the central highlands to Samburu which in the semi-arid northern frontier of Kenya. We will then have a brief stop-over at the imaginary Equator line that is about 40,075 km (24,901 mi) long in circumference. The equator divides the planet into the Northern and Southern Hemisphere and is located at zero (0) degrees latitude, the halfway line between the North and South Pole. We are now at the foot of the famous Mount Kenya, the second highest in Africa. Weather permitting, you may have a very clear view of the mountain peaks.
Samburu, Shaba and Buffalo springs game reserves are a place of endless skies, dust-red plains and palm-fringed rivers. The reserves lie on the fringes of the vast and arid desert once known as the Northern Frontier District. The combined landscape of these reserve features rocky battlements, craggy scarps, dry river beds and fallen boulders rising out of the thorn scrub against a backdrop of the far-distant hills and the great red Table Mountain known as Ololokwe.
Overnight at Ashnil Samburu Camp. Meal plan: Lunch, Dinner
Day 2: SAMBURU BUFFALO SPRINGS – FULL DAY
The day shall be spent at Buffalo Springs game reserve with morning and afternoon game viewing drives.
Game viewing is concentrated along the Ewaso Nyiro River, the lifeline of this semi desert environment.
Overnight at Ashnil Samburu Camp. Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Day 3: SAMBURU – OLPEJETA CONSERVANCY. (Appx: 150kms: 3 hrs)
After early breakfast, we shall then proceed to Ol Pejeta Conservancy through Rongai Gate for our fun-filled game drive.
Formerly a cattle ranch, Ol Pejeta today is the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, and home to two of the world’s last remaining northern white rhino. It is also the only place in Kenya to see chimpanzees in a Sanctuary established to rehabilitate animals rescued from the black market.
The chimpanzees’ natural home range spans from Senegal on the West African coast, through the central forested belt of Africa, to Uganda. They are not native to Kenya, but when a rescue centre in Burundi had to be closed due to the civil war outbreak in 1993 – Ol Pejeta opened its doors.
The Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary was established with an agreement between the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the Jane Goodall Institute. The aim is to provide lifelong refuge to orphaned and abused chimpanzees from West and Central Africa. Over the last decade, Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary has been compelled to keep accepting chimpanzees rescued from traumatic situations – bringing the total number of chimpanzees in the Sanctuary to 36. Many are confiscated from cramped and unnatural living conditions, and many arrive with horrific injuries sustained from abuse at the hands of humans.
Ol Pejeta is also home to all the big five (Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Rhino and Leopard) and has the highest predator densities in Kenya, and still manages a very successful livestock programme. Ol Pejeta also seeks to support the people living around its borders, to ensure wildlife conservation translates to better education, healthcare and infrastructure for the next generation of wildlife guardians.

There is also a Raptor Centre in the Conservancy that is a home for endangered and threatened birds of prey. It was created in 2007 as an entity to conserve the flora, fauna and scenery of Soysambu Ranch. Home of the some of the big five and other many species of animal along the fauna of it.
Lake Elementaita holds a large number of pink flamingos that feeds on the algae of the Lake. There are more than 150 species of birds that are recorded within the conservancy.
